Possibly more than any other player on the Red Sox roster, pitcher John Lackey gets the most to prove in 2013. One year taken off Tommy John surgery, Lackey must show Boston that he's not a total dud.
Lackey published a 4. 40 ERA in 2010, his debut season while using the Sox, and followed it up using a 6. 41 ERA around 2011 before surgery.
The 34-year-old appeared to spring training looking like he was a student in better shape than ever and seemed happy to get back on keep track of. But it hasn't already been easy.
Lackey is currently 1-4 with a 4. 05 ERA and contains allowed 31 hits in addition to 12 earned runs with 26 innings. He also had a setback in April any time he injured his bicep and was placed on the 15-day DL.
In his current start on Tuesday night with Rays, Lackey blew some 3-0 Red Sox point and allowed five runs in four innings, the sole five runs Tampa scored.
He's not the worst starter in the red Sox rotation, but Lackey definitely hoped into the future out stronger than this particular. Red Sox Nation has yet to get convinced of his cost.
