Father fighting forever after West Bromwich hit-run accident - expressandstar.com

A father-of-two is battling for his life in hospital after being left for dead with a hit and run driver in the Black Country. Simon Oldnall, aged 43, was currently in a coma and undergoing lifesaving surgery after being broken down by way of a car as he entered Black Lake in West Bromwich. The self-employed rug fitter suffered numerous serious injuries including a broken neck, neck, legs and a lung in the incident on Friday at 9.40pm. While in a steady state, physicians at Queen Elizabeth Hospital describe his situation as critical and have told his family he might be in a for at least a week. Today, his partner Laura Irvine, 28, supported a appeal for witnesses of the crash ahead forward. She said: aIt is totally disgusting a' how can they keep him so wounded like that.a The couple are now living in Anson Road, West Bromwich, using their kids Jake, five, and Luke, three. Miss Irvine said: aIave only got to cope with it now and be there for the 2 boys. I've to pretend everything is all right a' they know he is in hospital, but donat know how terrible it is. aIn my heart I understand he'll make it, but there is that small chance he mightn't a' itas damaging all of the family.a Mr Oldnall had been along with his buddy Adrian Leir in Birmingham when he returned on the Metro to Black Lake. The couple were crossing the road if the car hit Mr Oldnall and barely missed Mr Leir to attend The New Talbot club. Mr Oldnallas brother Stephen, 36, also of Anson Road, said: shock are praying he makes the full recovery, but it isnat going to be easy, not even close to it. Iad ask anybody who knows something to have touching police, please.a Mr Oldnall, who was born in Hill Top, joined Hill Top Senior High School before leaving to train as a rug fitter. Today, police were appealing for witnesses ahead forward. Representatives have reviewed the scene for forensic evidence and are also looking at CCTV footage of the event. Sgt Gavin Green said: aTo support, I'd ask that anyone who was in your community during the time the person was hit by the automobile to call us immediately. aI am especially eager to listen to from a car is spotted by anyone who with front end harm and a broken windscreen.a Police say the make or model of the car which struck the man continues to be unknown. A 25-year-old gentleman from West Bromwich was arrested on suspicion of failing continually to stop at the picture of a road traffic wreck on Saturday.
