The inaugural event for the UFC on Fox Sports 1 now has its first fight with two welterweight knockout artists agreeing to meet on the August 17 card in Boston.
Fresh off of a knockout win over highly touted prospect Jordan Mein at UFC on Fox 7 in April, Matt Brown will look to pick up his sixth win in a row when he returns for the UFC on Fox Sports 1 card in August
The two fighters have agreed to meet and verbal agreements are in place for the matchup according to a report from MMAWeekly.com with bout agreements likely to be issued in the coming weeks.
Following an up and down start to his UFC career that at one time included three losses in a row, former Ultimate Fighter competitor Matt Brown has stormed the gates of the welterweight division with his last five fights.
The Ohio native has dominated his way to five consecutive victories including four of them by TKO or knockout. Most recently Brown dispatched of former Strikeforce prodigy Jordan Mein by TKO during their meeting at UFC on Fox 7.
To get his sixth win in a row Brown will have to go through former welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves, who looks to get back in action for the first time in over a year.
It's been a strange time for the past couple of years for Brazilian heavy hitter Thiago Alves after working his way to a title shot against Georges St-Pierre in 2009.
Since the loss in that fight, Alves has gone 2-3 overall including a heartbreaking defeat in his last fight against Martin Kampmann in March 2012. After controlling the better part of the action for more than two rounds, Alves got caught in a late guillotine choke submission from Kampmann in the third and final round.
Following that fight, Alves was booked for his return at UFC 149 in July 2012, but tore his pectoral muscle while in training and ended up on the surgeon's table instead of the Octagon.
Now finally at full health, Alves will look to get his career back on track when he returns at UFC on Fox Sports 1's debut card in August.
There has been no word on whether or not the proposed Brown vs. Alves fight will make the main card, but with Brown's current win streak and his opponent's constant standing as a top ten welterweight throughout his career it's likely the two will end up as a featured bout on the card.
