Arsenal v Manchester United: live - Telegraph.co.uk

Email thom.gibbs@telegraph.co.uk or tweet @thomgibbs with the answer to this question: What would be an appropriate way to greet Robin van Persie this afternoon?

Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs; Arteta, Ramsey; Walcott, Cazorla, Rosicky; PodolskiSubs: Mannone, Vermaelen, Jenkinson, Monreal, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho

Manchester United: De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Jones, Nani, Rooney, Van Persie.Subs:

14.40 Robin van Persie has already excelled himself by erroneously making for the Arsenal dressing room as he entered the stadium. Does that qualify as epic or just top bants?

This is the key game of the season if the main thing you like about football is players clapping other players onto the pitch.

The lesser-spotted guard of honour will be in evidence for Manchester United this afternoon. The new champions arrive in London with Robin van Persie, who I believe used to play for a London club...

Oh yes, that's right, it was Arsenal! I'm sure their supporters will give their former hero a rousing and kind welcome back to his old stomping ground.

Especially because this is a huge game for them. They could really do with a win to shore up their Champions League qualification credentials.

United, meanwhile are after a record points total. Is it reasonable to expect, therefore, a nice attacking, open game?

Let's hope so. I'm a little occupied with Reading v QPR on the other side at the moment but I will be here along with my undivided attention once that's been wrapped up.

Team News Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud starts a three-match ban against new Premier League champions Manchester United on Sunday.

United could make changes from the team that secured the latest title at Villa on Monday though Sir Alex Ferguson remains focused on securing the four wins available that would secure his club a record points haul in the Premier League.

The Premier League champions are likely to have skipper Nemanja Vidic available, whilst Rio Ferdinand, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck are all in contention.

Having revealed earlier this week they played against Aston Villa on Monday despite carrying injuries, Ferguson may elect to rest Michael Carrick and Jonny Evans.

Match Notes If hosting the new champions is bad enough, Arsenal must serenade them before hand and applaude the man who made it possible.

Robin van Persie makes his first return to the Emirates since last summer's move to Old Trafford and, having won the silverware he so craved, he can damage Arsenal's hopes of reaching the Champions League.
