Newcastle United left sweating after Liverpool hit six of the finest - The Guardian

Alan Pardew would probably prefer never to make an effort to imagine what may have happened if Luis SuArez had played. The Uruguayan's suspension was designed to get this to a routine three points for Newcastle United but, as opposed to banishing residual relegation doubts, they folded in the facial skin of Philippe Coutinho and friends. With Coutinho midfield brilliance personified, Daniel Sturridge the striker he's long promised to be and Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing indicating they certainly were not such bad Anfield buys in the end, it was the smartest of spring days for Brendan Rodgers but a powerful contender for the worst 90 minutes of his close friend Pardew's career. Newcastle's director had required a "worthy of the black-and-white shirt" from his people but, judging by their show, many were evidently wearing earplugs. The game had barely kicked off when Coutinho established the tone, the 20-year-old Brazilian selecting Glen Johnson on the proper with the cutest of moves. The right-back a' observed by the England supervisor, Roy Hodgson a' sent an excellent low mix which Sturridge would certainly have stolen in but for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa's last-ditch, sliding involvement. Failing to follow this reprieve, Pardew's defence foolishly moved out after the half-clearance of a Downing place. Moving up en masse, they left Rob Elliot horribly remote and when the ball was looped back in the box by Downing, Daniel Agger, onside and alone in miles of area, appropriately rooted a well beyond the goalkeeper's grasp. It easily got worse for Pardew. Sturridge and Coutinho sold moves, the latter sending the striker rushing through the center and drawing Elliot off his line. With the goalkeeper dedicated, the ball was unselfishly slipped by Sturridge to Henderson. Arriving at rate, the former Sunderland midfielder easily directed a crisp shot in to the back of the web. Henderson's quick importance served to regenerate unpleasant memories of the 3-0 beat here by Sunderland a week ago and because the crowd murmured and muttered its unhappiness, Pardew's significantly upset body gestures colored an uneasy picture of a guy under extreme strain. It was down seriously to their quicker brains and faster legs but it often appeared as though Liverpool possessed an additional person. As Coutinho drifted nonchalantly far from Yohan Cabaye, his head was shaken by Pardew. When Mathieu Debuchy became sucked right into a concentration-diverting running dispute with Sturridge he flapped a fist in despair. An amalgam of rage, frustration and utter bewilderment was writ large on the Newcastle manager's experience because this was a pale imitation of the medial side who finished fifth last season. Twelve months before Pardew was well on the way to coronation as director of the season however now he was left cursing as James Perch, unmarked and six yards out, headed agonisingly wide whenever a Liverpool protection generally speaking secured beautifully by the excellent Lucas's deep-lying-midfield part was caught cold. If perhaps that opportunity had fallen to Papiss CissA. Rather Pardew's solitary striker was rendered almost ineffective by lack of support from a deteriorating midfield in which Cheik TiotA appeared the slightest shadow of the knight of old. It had been not surprising when Newcastle re-emerged for the second half with Hatem Ben Arfa a' coveted by Liverpool a and Yoan Gouffran on rather than Perch and Jonas GutiArrez. TiotA, meanwhile, had plainly been directed to attempt to adhere to Coutinho like glue. The Ivorian, however, had demonstrably come unstuck and was nowhere to be viewed as Coutinho surged forward after seizing on Ben Arfa's concession of property. Deceiving the frantically back-pedalling Steven Taylor courtesy of an step-over, Newcastle's nemesis dinked the ball to Sturridge. Whilst the former Chelsea striker's increasing shot struck the top of the internet Rodgers recognized purpose No3. Sturridge soon had another target. Noting that Newcastle were suddenly holding a really high defensive line, Gerrard revealed a smart long move which left Henderson enjoyed onside by Debuchy and focusing in on goal. A cool, extremely astute little ball to Sturridge and an ensuing photo later the score became 4-0. Newcastle's legion of technically accomplished but suddenly crisp and naive-looking French players had surrendered and were staggering around in obvious disbelief. Next Fabio Borini used his first touch after replacing Gerrard to connect with Downing's delivery before shooting beyond Elliot. Then Debuchy, already reserved, was sent down for a terrible handle on Coutinho and five down easily turned to six as Henderson's free-kick crept in, unchallenged, at the far post. It prefaced a powerful touchline conversation between Pardew and Taylor. "Going down," performed the Liverpool supporters as at all times them Newcastle followers both booed or lay in head-in-hands method thinking how it had arrive at this.
