Fan's thoughts and image gallery: Enzo Maresca - Birmingham Mail

While checking the Birmingham Mail archives last week I discovered an image of former Baggies midfielder Enzo Maresca. The Italian made his senior debut for West Bromwich Albion and played for two months for the team. He joined them on a free of charge transfer and at the finish of his time at The Hawthorns he moved for a significant charge to Juventus. I remember him being used in high regard by the Baggies supporters so I chose to ask you all what you thought of him. The outcomes were rather frustrating as you can observe under, thanks everyone. Take your time and effort to really have a look back at some great pictures... Enzo Maresca Steven Paolo Wilkes My mother when out with him for some time when he was with us mother being chinese prob made him feel more at home.... top bloke top player x Daniel Taylor Adi There's a boost from days gone by. I think he was probably also best for us at the time, he might have been a premiership person. Andrew Lakin Slow but skill whole Nathan Butler Good feel and attention, among the few shows all through an otherwise bad period within our history Brian Watson quality player. saw him play for malaga last summer too Kev Millard Still remember his talk when he left 1 day arrivaderchi I'll return or but u spell it I hope he keeps his word and does return Pete Lakin He was a joy to view and went past participants really easy considering he was a tad over weight Lynden Small GREAT player true albion tale shud do not have left Karl Latham Short stay at the club, raw but talented. Didn't fulfill his potential despite European wins. Martyn Todd A jewel of a find, produced a needed touch of imagination and class to that cutting edge was desperately needed by a team Stephen Harris When I was growing up! Liked him at the Albion West Bromwich Albion v Crewe: Enzo Maresca tussles with Rodney Jack. Alan Baggie Williams Very good player. Mark Wba Evans One of my fave people ever. He was quality Dodge Dhanda Made us a neat profit, ergo helping us to have where we're today as i team i would prefer to think Nick Nicolaou Fantastic!!! John McNaney A really classy player in a poor staff at the time. Adam Penn Even though we did not know it until after he left, probably our most significant signing ever. Steven Slope One of many most skillfull people I've ever seen, even as this type of small child. If he'd have had only a supplementary half of a yard rate could have been fantastic Jack Willetts Was not seen enough due to his age and our problem during the time. Won a at Palace and at 18 it was obvious he was class- was strange we were joined by him as he was rated in Italy too. Matt Graham Certainly one of the best players we'd in the very gloomy days of the 1990s. A person of immense quality and expertise at 18, and definitely the most competent in the team at the time. Could not think some body that good attained the Albion, and was then later sold t...See More Maureen Clark Once we were teetering on the edge of ruin his purchase and that of the killer saved us. Thanks Enzo. Henry Clark His purchase started a chain reaction where we're now to get us Modsand Sods top act....would have been great to have him now.. Darren Support ever lasting memory was Palace absent about 99/00 ish..Hughes scored 1st and remember planning with my mate if Maresca scored we were off to soho and what happened...SCREEEAMER..!! School work in a average side but wouldve fitted in any Abion side over t...See More David Cremin It'd seem that he is just a type, having been with eight groups in fourteen years! Graham David He never really excited me because we were in circumstances and he was never going to help us get anywhere. Battling people were more essential in days past. Patrick Hayward He was a competent midfielder. Possessed great specialized capabilities. Regrettably, under our chairman during the time, Tony Hale, Albion were losing A30,000 per week. We had to sell him and Kevin Kilbane to avoid a precarious financial predicament. Good money was got very by us for him. Nick 'Nicko' Astbury Ticked most of the boxes for someone so young, nearly rejoined us a couple of years right back i believe... but we got Valero instead... nuf said on that West Bromwich Albion v QPR in 1999: Enzo Maresca assumes on Stuart Wardley. Mark Daniel After he left, a letter was read out that he'd written thanking all of us for supporting him all through his time at the Albion, good contact from this kind of small player I recall the very first game at the hawthorns Richard Gibson Remarkable player one of my faves in the nineties Jonathan James Forrester My greatest memory of him is how by promoting him it allowed the revolution to be begun by us Kristian Green His career after us proved his quality. The lad was a act and made every other person on the park look substandard. If perhaps we'd him now. Frank Henson He was a square peg in a circular hole at the time but good to view, it was good to see him get person of the fit for Sevilla years later with his two objectives against Middlesborough (I do believe) in the Uefa Cup Final 2007. Joe Mangan A ray of sun in a dark time under Brian Little. Often seemed a class above the rest of the side, even Sneekes Jack Simms My first year going up he was there quality person gutted when he left wouldnt mind him back! Served us consolidate in championship when we were dog rubbish which eventually resulted in us being where we are now. Got good money for him also Offer Polito He was quality much better than his partner Mario bortalazzi! Lol Dominic Hill He was superb. I ray of sunlight throughout a gray and miserable period for the team. We had a team high in uninspired, journeyman sportsmen and then suddenly in this ocean of dross seemed a wise, gifted footballer with flair and strategy...See More Glen Hillsmith I remember being at the McAlpine/Galpharm/( whatever Huddersfield were calling it in those days), about what I believe was his entire introduction. Being an 18/19-year-old, Enzo completely ran the show, and permitted Albion to win 3-0 at a previously unbeaten-at-home Terriers clothing. Had good features except a garden of rate. Forza Enzo. Daniel Hisgett Even today he's still on the back of an Albion clothing the only name I've ever had, it's merely a shame he left in the next exchange window. I don't know whether or not the signings were connected, but I always though Mario Bortolazzi should have been a big reason for him joining us and for some I'm now remembering a friendly at Halesowen Town, no wonder he left for Juventus. Cathy 'Mosher' Foster He was as somebody who would go on to bigger and better things an outstanding person who stood out. I'm confident it surely got to the main point where her got person of the match nearly every week. His soccer brain was nearly an excessive amount of for the players around him,...See More Ali Bray Could say he was certainly one of my all time favorite Albion players... I actually bought a monster t-shirt to wear under my shirt while playing due to him, still wear it to the day!! ENZO MARESCA!! Richard 'Simo' Sims A great player that found himself in a very bad albion area straight back then....good for the chairmans pocket tho....signed for free offered for A5m. West Bromwich Albion v Sheffield United in 1999: Enzo Maresca scores a target. Carly Leanne Siniarski Liked him, certainly one of my fave people within my mid teens. Christiaan Wallett Like Sneekes, ahead of his time in the team he was in. Saw items that no-one else could, not their own team mates. Nic WoodwardA breath of oxygen during the time and providing hope of better times and leisure. #enzo Lewis Allden Total school work. Could not think the fool Brian Little not playing him. The cash rebuilt WBA, when offered. Good player. mark brookes how on the planet did we get him?? It absolutely was the very first shoots of good goal by the membership... KevSmith IMO Enzo was the saviour of WBA he stepped in as adolescent Italian under 21 leader price nothin bought for a then huge A4.5m David Harrison Great young talent really poor part. We made plenty of cash out of him jason phillips graceful, gifted, right person for club at the wrong time, discount and money maker - sums up the #WBA mentalityA #wellrunclub Andrew WakemanA he was very gifted but lacked that rush of rate that could have made him first class as his failure st Juve demonstrated tomA Stood out even at his age,raw but we knew his ability was way above wba at the time, prem was miles away. Norwich v West Bromwich Albion in 1999: Enzo Maresca gets far from Darel Russell. andy marsh fine young his sale enabled.club to player to signal Santos butler clement and Taylor again Denis smith signing Craig HarrisonA Probably the best creative midfielder I have ever seen play for us, a delight to view regrettably in front of us at the time Stuart Walker Next bryan robson.Close touch and dribbles.Vision. Superman tshirt. Mario bortilazzi. And all thanks to.... Dennis johnson James McCreedy The club was probably set by his sale off in the best direction for where they are today. He was worth every penny of the payment also. Lee Goode I met him after the Oxford sport where he ran the show won mother he was together with his parents spoke little English seemed shy Hero. 1st player I saw at wba with this level of talent. When I perform 5-a-side I still wear a superman t under my shirt. Jeff BettamA he was a class above in a age of very average players. The duck style celebration is remembered by always. #wba #westbrom Robert Wooding Enzo offered WBA fans grounds to be content when there was little to cheer. He helped us to trust we were still a huge club John hoult A he seemed so comfortable and relaxed on the ball and his vision, when you saw him play was way beyond his years. Baggie_RussA such a skill at such a young age, probably also beneficial to us at the time, what value to possess him in the present team? Peter Bateman Too good for us at that time, like offering a superb wine in Burgerking. #wba #westbrom
