Thereas plenty of rushing left in 2013, but the NASCAR Sprint Cup time doesnat have a race lacking significance. Put the STP 400 to the set of must-watch events. Kansas City was home to the STP 400 again this season, and the race lived up to its fascinating storylines. With a not quite perfect efficiency in Kansas City, Matt Kenseth took his No. 20 car from start to finish in first place with the guide most of the race, en path to an enormous win at the Kansas Speedway on Sunday. He was the third straight driver to win a race after beginning with the pole position. One of many largest concerns heading to the race was how effectively Kansas Speedwayas new floor would last to 267 laps. While it didnat just steal the headlines, it certainly played a role in the quantity of crashes and cautions we saw throughout the race. As the Kansas City Globe described on Twitter, cautions caused some havoc very early on: It was to be anticipated, although. Last year at Kansas Speedway, the STP 400 produced 14 cautions throughout the race, rendering it among the more interesting activities of the Sprint Cup season. That particular race was one of the better of the entire 2012 year. This year's cautions didnat gradual Matt Kenseth, however. The No. 20 car held the lead through the entire first half and had the pole to start the battle. As Fox Sportsa NASCAR Twitter bill described, Kenseth dominated the early action: Many cars did not gap near the midway point, however, and Kenseth restarted in the sixth place with Brad Keselowski leading. It wouldnat Kenseth was in competition for the cause be long, but he would have to battle it out with Jimmie Johnson. The race was started by johnson in the 21st position, but he wouldnat stay static in that spot for long. After working his way to the front of the bunch, the No. 48 car took the lead in Lap 148, as NASCAR Updates pointed out on Twitter: It wouldnat be long before Johnson passed to No. 2, however. Martin Truex Jr. passed him in the 167th lap to take the lead (via David Carabali ): Johnson and Kenseth faded back again to seventh and eight (respectively) by this time, however, and with 80 laps to go, a warning allowed Carl Edwards to slingshot into the cause. Bob Stenhouse Jr. jumped out into the cause in the panel that followed, but Kenseth again emerged from the class to take next and then second immediately behind Stenhouse (via Joe Gibbs Racing ): With 51 laps to go, Stenhouse was required to hole to refuel and re-tire, and Kenseth once more took the lead, this time with Kasey Kahne stepping into second place. As the raceas eighth warning arrived with 50 laps to go, the momentum wouldnat last, but. Following still another warning, Kenseth came out shooting to retain his lead with just 42 laps to go. Nothing went quite as expected in the raceas remaining 100 laps, however the No. 20 car was as near to a certain things as fans saw on Sunday. The greatest basis for that was Kensethas incredible performance on restarts following a raceas bevy of cautionsA( as Yahoo! Sportsa Nick Bromberg pointed out ): Kahne managed to get a fantastic end in the last laps, but Kenseth eventually held on for a huge victory at Kansas Speedway. His was the only Joe Gibbs car to put near the top of the panel. Kahne and Johnson rounded out the very best three of the field and Truex and Clint Bowyer completed fourth and fifth, respectively.
