Jason Day Ready to Break Through with First Major Victory at 2013 Masters

Jason Day leads the 2013 Masters after Round 2. His confidence is up, his mistakes are down and he's ready to claim his first major title with a win this year at Augusta.

While many of the game's top players, including Tiger Woods, faltered a bit down the home stretch on Friday afternoon, Day was able to grind out the best score of any player on the course in Round 2—a four-under par effort that included a few gut-wrenching par saves and some brilliant recovery shots.

No player has been able to put forth as consistent a positive effort thus far in this year's Masters than Day, who has posted 12 birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey.

He's hitting 67.9 percent of the fairways, 61.1 percent of the greens, is converting half of his sand saves and is putting well on Augusta's brutal greens.

The ageless Fred Couples will be paired with Day on Saturday, having posted a round of one-under par to give him a tournament score of five-under par.

First-round leader Marc Leishman lost a stroke on Friday, and he'll be paired with former Masters champ Angel Cabrera.

Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker are at four-under par, and then there's Woods and Adam Scott at three-under par, along with a handful of other golfers.

2013 isn't Day's first brush with Masters glory. He finished in second place behind Charl Schwartzel in 2011, and that experience will serve him well in the next two days—the most important rounds of golf in Day's career thus far.

Day's cool, calm approach to the first two days proves he has learned to let the pressure wash over him like the wind, rather than eat him up from inside.

Though Day has only won on the PGA Tour once before, he's proven capable of playing with the best golfers in the world at the toughest venues with two second-place finishes in major events.

He's playing outstanding golf right now, has played enough rounds at Augusta to know its wrinkles and is playing like a champion. Now, it's time to finish the job with two more rock-solid rounds on Saturday and Sunday.
